María Rojas Arias, Imprimir-Comprimir (2014), Colombia
Imprimir-Comprimir is a work from the films Victoria (1919 and 1949) by Maurice Turner and John Cromwell, which was an adaptation made in 1919 to the novel by Joseph Conrad. The artist captured the frames of the films’ digitised versions sold on the pirate market in Bogotá, then printed those frames on the film material. These were then accumulated, overlaid, then projected again. The projection then contains the decomposed time unfolded into the image, and a new film is generated through rewriting the time of the images.
